Throughout the year the Bee Farmer runs a series of seasonal workshops. The workshops are designed to prepare the beekeeper for the next part of the season. Most of the workshops are aimed at beekeepers in the early phase of their beekeeping life. Seasoned beekeepers may appreciate a refresher or an alternative point of view.
Spring forward! Preparing your bees for spring time
As the short days of late winter start to give way to the lengthening days of spring what should we do for our bees? In this workshop we discuss:
Winter diseases
Pest control
Feeding. What sort and why
Heading off spring losses
Preparing for the spring build up.

A swarm in May

Given fair weather through the summer your honeybees should have collected sufficient honey to share with you but how do you get the honey into a jar? In this workshop you will learn:
What are the options in harvesting honey?
How to remove honey from the hive
Honey extraction equipment
How to extract honey with an extractor
Honey presentation
Rules and regulations on honey production
Mike's Bee-Supplies will be providing the equipment for the demonstration.

Make lip balm - Craft
This is a great craft. Youngsters can work with adults to craft a potion that is useable in the real world and a perfect gift. It has a number of steps, it takes relatively short time to make which makes the experience all the more real.Contents

Name the queen competiton - Worksheet 6
Here is a competition to name the Queen bee. Bee Farmer supporter, Alison thought the swarm should have a queen however the queen does not have a name. I invite you to give her a name

Make a rolled candle - Craft
This is a family craft suitable for even the smallest hands. Children practice their dexterity, fine motor control and build up strength in their fingers, hands and arms.
