Diploma of Excellence in Bee Farming 
An adult education scheme developed for those wishing to achieve the highest professional level in bee farming 
Introduction to the Diploma 
Bee Farming is going through a transformation. The BFA apprenticeship scheme in association with Rowse has created 30 new bee farmers in recent years. The diploma extends that level professional competency to adult new entrant bee farmers and by delivery of Continuous Professional Development (CPD), to existing bee farmers. 
 
The diploma is delivered and administered by The Bee Farmers Association (BFA) and is underwritten by The Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers in conjunction with City and Guilds (C&G) and the Livery Companies Skills Council (LCSC). 
 
The diploma is City & Guilds level 4 and equivalent to Certificate of Higher Education or Higher National Certificate  
 
What is required to join the Diploma course? 
 
The course is designed for aspiring professional bee farmers.  
 
Applicants undergo an initial assessment which will take into account prior experience, qualifications, and/or a portfolio of evidence. The applicant will have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their interest and ability.

What is involved in the Diploma course? 
 
The diploma course is modular.  
There are 15 mandatory modules which are required to be completed.  
There are a further 11 optional modules from which the diploma student may select and complete to amass an additional 3 modules.  
The student must also complete 4 weeks practical work on a bee farm.  
 
The student activities and course work are recorded using an on-line portfolio called Onefile.  
It is expected that the diploma will take 3 years to complete.

Time spent on a working Bee Farm gives you practical experience of the business.
